Circle of Connections

Where couples therapy meets secure parenting

For the couples who want to do things differently. This isn’t just another parenting program. It’s a transformative journey that will help you grow as a couple, deepen your connection, and build a happy and secure foundation for your children.

Rewrite the Story of Your Family

Maybe you’ve felt it—the quiet resolve deep in your heart to do things differently. Whether you’re expecting and wanting to feel fully prepared for the big transition ahead, in the throes of toddlerhood and tantrums, or heading into the tween and teen years, you know one thing for certain: you want to break free from the patterns of the past. You want to create a childhood for your little one filled with the love, understanding, and emotional safety you may have wished for when you were growing up.

You understand that parenting is about more than just providing care—it’s about creating a deep, lasting connection. But when echoes of your own childhood stir—triggers from moments you’d rather forget—it can be hard to respond with the calm and intention you know you want to bring into your parenting journey.

That’s where I come in. You don’t have to navigate this alone.

My Circles of Connection program combines the transformative power of couples therapy with the evidence-based insights of the Circle of Security. Whether you’re preparing for the early days, dealing with toddler challenges, or navigating the complexities of older children, this course remains relevant. Your child’s attachment needs never change.

This is a space where you and your partner can heal, grow, and lead with love—love for your child, your relationship, and yourselves. Together, we’ll build the foundation for secure attachment and emotional resilience that will support your family through all stages of childhood and beyond.

What is the Circle of Secuirty?

The Circle of Security (COS) program is all about helping parents build strong, loving bonds with their children. Based on years of research in attachment theory, it shows how secure connections between parents and kids lead to better emotional health, resilience, and stronger relationships later in life.

Developed by experts Glen Cooper, Kent Hoffman, and Bert Powell, COS has been proven to reduce parental stress, improve emotional responses, and help children feel more secure. Unlike many programs that focus on fixing child behavior, COS teaches parents how to understand and respond to their child’s emotional needs, strengthening the parent-child relationship.

COS is simple and easy to apply, using relatable concepts like the “Circle” and “Hands” to guide parents. It’s been proven to work across different cultures and settings, making it a universal tool for families who want to grow together with love, trust, and understanding.

Program Breakdown:

8 X 90 minute Fortnightly sessions held online or my Joondalup Therapy Clinic.

Session 1:
Introduction to the Circle of Security

COS Focus: Overview of the model, recognising your child’s needs, and understanding the parent’s role as a secure base and safe haven.

Explore how your relationship as partners creates the foundation for being a secure base for your child. Reflect on how moments of emotional connection (or disconnection) between you and your partner influence your parenting dynamic.

Session 2:
The Hands on the Circle

COS Focus: The parent’s role in guiding, supporting, and protecting their child, balancing structure with space.

Identify strengths and vulnerabilities in supporting their child’s needs. Create a shared understanding of how to “hold the circle” as a team, even when one partner feels overwhelmed.

Session 3:
Understanding the Child’s Needs

COS Focus: Identifying and interpreting cues signaling your child’s emotional needs.

Explore how your emotional availability as partners influences your ability to recognise and meet your child’s needs. Practice open, nonjudgmental communication to build mutual trust and align your parenting approaches.

Session 4:
Rupture and Repair

COS Focus: Recognising and repairing breaks in connection with your child to build resilience and trust.

Techniques for repairing ruptures in your relationship as a couple. Discuss how addressing moments of disconnection between you as partners can model healthy repair for your child and strengthen the family bond.

Session 5:
Shark Music

COS Focus: Identifying and managing personal triggers that affect parenting responses.

Explore how unresolved experiences from your own childhood influence your relationship dynamics and parenting triggers. Create space to support each other in calming “Shark Music” moments and co-regulating as a team.

Session 6:
Following Your Child’s Needs

COS Focus: Understanding your child’s need for independence and connection and balancing these effectively.

Reflect on how you and your partner support or struggle with giving space versus stepping in. Use exercises to uncover how attachment needs within your partnership impact how you respond to your child’s journey around the Circle.

Session 7:
Being “Good Enough”

COS Focus: Emphasising self-compassion and the value of consistent, loving parenting rather than perfection.

Focus on creating a supportive environment within your partnership to acknowledge each other’s efforts and reduce guilt or self-criticism. Build a united approach to parenting by affirming your shared commitment and “good enough” parenting.

Session 8:
Building a Lifelong Secure Attachment

COS Focus: Reflecting on progress and developing steps to maintain secure attachment as your child grows.

Celebrate how your partnership has evolved through the program. Revisit moments of connection and growth in your relationship and set intentions for continued teamwork in parenting and mutual emotional support.
