Clinical Supervision in Perth & Joondalup

For Therapists with Jo Bealey

Attachment-Based, Relational, Reflective

Clinical supervision has always felt like one of my favourite places to sit, a space where the work deepens but also where therapists remember they are held too. Clinical supervision isn’t just about ticking ethical boxes. It’s about creating a space where you, as a therapist, can feel safe enough to reflect, explore, and grow  both professionally and personally.

So often, therapists bring not just their client work but also their own hidden questions, self-doubts and longings into supervision. My role is to meet all of that with warmth, curiosity, and depth.

‘Why Attachment Matters in the Therapy Room

“The propensity to make strong emotional bonds to particular individuals is a basic component of human nature.” – John Bowlby

In supervision any presentation is welcome, because it’s always about the relational patterns the client brings into the room – what’s being played out or re-lived.

It’s about making sense of what’s happening beneath the surface, not just the content they bring but how they bring it.

That way we can work with the relational process as well as the clinical material.

We can notice how our own attachment might be responding to theirs and what that stirs up in the therapeutic dynamic.

This work offers deeper reflection, strengthens your capacity to hold clients and helps you notice the moments where old patterns might otherwise be re-enacted.

‘Jo wove the Circle of Security throughout as both a theoretical lens and a reflective tool, inviting us into meaningful exploration of both supervisee and supervisor roles. Moments like her explanation of how appropriate supervisory holding can ‘take the shame away’ were powerful and deeply resonant. Her discussion of ‘shark music’ offered a compassionate way to understand activation in the supervisory space and expanded my empathy for myself and others.’

Frameworks I Draw On in Supervision

Supervision with me is grounded in both relational presence and established theory. Some of the models I lean into are:

  • Attachment & Circle of Security® – to hold supervision as both a secure base and safe haven.
  • Inskipp & Proctor’s Three Functions – formative (learning), normative (ethics), and restorative (support).
  • Heron’s Six Categories of Intervention – balancing support, challenge, and exploration.
  • The Seven-Eyed Model – widening the lens to include the client, therapist, relationship, interventions and what shows up in supervision.
  • Parallel Process – noticing how client dynamics may replay between us, your client and using this as insight rather than pathology.

These frameworks aren’t boxes to squeeze you into, they’re tools to help us explore, reflect, stay ethically grounded and create a space where your growth feels both supported and safe.

Why Choose Clinical Supervision in Perth with Me

I offer attachment-based, relational supervision that:

🌱 Acts as both a secure base and a safe haven –  you’ll feel supported enough to explore and contained enough to rest when it feels too much.

🌱 Brings the Circle of Security into the supervisory space;  encouraging exploration, supporting repair when things feel wobbly, and strengthening your capacity to hold others.

🌱 Attends to your whole self –  not just your professional skillset but your personal experiences, attachment history, and nervous system patterns you bring into your work.

🌱 Balances the formative, normative, and restorative functions of supervision with care, flexibility, and attunement.

‘Jo creates a calm, safe space where supervision feels both deeply reflective and completely shame-free. Her attachment-informed approach helped me grow in confidence, insight, and clinical clarity.’ Wendy W

What I Bring

  • Experience in attachment-based psychotherapy, EFT couples work, and conscious parenting support.
  • A deep respect for the complexity of the therapeutic relationship, especially when trauma and relational attachment wounds are present.
  • A commitment to seeing you as a whole person –  because your growth as a therapist is always intertwined with your growth as a human.
  • A gentle but steady presence: celebrating your strengths, holding space for your struggles and lovingly challenging where I see you holding back.

For You, This Might Mean…

  • Feeling safe enough to bring the sessions you’d usually keep hidden.
  • Exploring how your own attachment story shows up in your work.
  • Having space to process the emotional impact of client work, so you don’t carry it alone.
  • Building greater confidence in your voice, your intuition and your clinical judgment.
  • Experiencing supervision not just as oversight or a “must-do,” but as a relationship that grows you too.

    🌱 My Supervision Philosophy

“Supervision is itself an attachment relationship, offering the therapist a secure base from which to explore their work and themselves.” – Linda Cundy

Supervision with me is collaborative, relational and non-hierarchical.

It’s not about me holding all the answers but about creating a safe space where we can explore the parts of you that feel stuck, stagnant, overwhelmed or burnt out.

We’ll work within an ethical framework, always holding.

✨ There is no such thing as a perfect therapist, only a therapist and the relationship they bring into being.

     Why It Matters

“Attachment is not a weakness. It’s our greatest strength.” – Sue Johnson

Our attachment patterns don’t stop at the therapy door. They show up in how we learn, how we seek support, and how we take in feedback.

    • Anxiously attached supervisees may fear evaluation or over-depend on their supervisor.
    • Avoidantly attached supervisees may withdraw, minimise, or find it difficult to ask for support.
    • Secure supervision relationships create trust, openness, and the confidence to take risks.

Understanding these dynamics allows me to hold you with compassion and challenge so supervision becomes not just oversight  but a place of healing and growth.

Supervision with me is about nurturing that relationship: to your clients, to your work, and most importantly, to yourself.

It’s not about flawless sessions or having to know it all.
It’s about staying attuned, staying curious, and finding the steadiness to hold space for others without losing your own.

Here, “good enough” is always enough.

You just have to be willing to show up… real, reflective, and open to growth.
